Website helps you create the perfect dorm room
Filed under: Day Care & Education, Decor
Fortunately for me, I went to a school that didn't require students to live together in dorm rooms. But I've watched my younger brother and sister go through the process, and I have to admit, the idea of sharing a tiny room with a total stranger kinda creeps me out. Plus, if you're into making your living space look half-way decent, how do you negotiate this stuff with a person that a) you've never met, and b) probably lives in some other part of the state (if not the country)?
If your college-bound teenager is having the same dilemma, you might point them toward Homeslyce -- a website designed to help students both design and pay for their perfect dorm room. The site first takes the user through a checklist of everything they'll need for their pimped-out new pad, then allows them to work with their roommate-to-be on all the items they'll actually be purchasing, and then makes it easy to split the bill (either right down the middle, or item by item).
Sure, you could do this without a website, but why would you?

Heather said...I remember one or two phone calls to my future roommate in order to tell her what I would be bringing to the room. Because she lived across the country and I was relatively close with a family that had plenty of cast offs, it was easy for me to rustled together a fridge, tv (black & white, imagine!) and an area rug. This was "89 and our room was rather well furnished.
I have a cousin at the same school now and it is insane the way these kids spend money on their rooms. Through my cousin, I have heard stories of friction and bad feelings between brand new roommates because one couldn't or would not participate in a joint decorating theme.
